We want to provide information about the church activities this coming weekend, from Friday, January 9, through Sunday, January 11.
Spiritual Discernment Workshop Part 1 – Friday, January 9, at 7:30-9:00, Orange County Church of Christ, 10 Goodyear, Irvine, CA 92618
On Friday, January 9, at 7:30 pm, you are all invited to 10 Goodyear for a Spirituality Workshop with Dr. Mark Love. We asked Mark to come to Orange County to teach and consult with us on the ministry’s direction here. We will meet from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm at the church building at 10 Goodyear. Dr. Love will review with us the results of the surveys we have been distributing, which are also attached to this email. Mark will also teach on Spiritual Discernment, emphasizing being led by the Holy Spirit in ministry to avoid humanism and secularism. Friday will be an outstanding time together. Unfortunately, Oceans Church has not moved out of the building, so we cannot use our childcare rooms on Friday night. We apologize for the lack of childcare for this event. Some upstairs rooms are available if the parents want to rotate sharing childcare duty.
Sunday Regional Worship Service – Sunday, January 11, at 10:00-12:00, Performing Art Center, El Dorado High School, 1651 N. Valencia Avenue, Placentia, CA 92870
On Sunday, January 11, from 10:00 to 12:00, Dr. Mark Love will be preaching from the book of Acts on how the Holy Spirit led the early Christian Movement. Dr. Love will share the postures and practices we need to have to be a church of Spiritual Discernment. All the lessons this weekend are designed to help us become a more spiritual church. This spiritual weekend is an excellent way for us to start the new year and prepare to move back into the church building with outstanding teaching.
Family Group Leaders – Spiritual Discernment Workshop Part 2 – Sunday, January 11, at 12:00-3:00, Library, El Dorado High School, 1651 N. Valencia Avenue, Placentia, CA 92870
On Sunday, January 11, from 12:00 to 3:00, Dr. Mark Love will lead an exercise with all Family Group leaders. The group exercise helps us review how God has worked in our congregation in the past and how God might be leading us in the future. It is a spiritual discernment exercise that seeks to understand God’s activity among us.
Dr. Love wrote a book entitled “It Seemed Good to Us and the Holy Spirit.” Eugene, OR: Wifp & Stock, 2023. The book is a commentary on Acts chapters 1-15, describing how the early Christians practiced spiritual discernment as they faced crisis, challenges, and persecution. You can purchase the book on Amazon, and copies will be available at the workshop.
